Ajay Maken is a senior political leader of the Indian National Congress (INC) from Delhi, currently serving as the General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) for Rajasthan. Maken, who obtained his BSc in Chemistry (Hons.) from Delhi University, has been associated with the Congress party since his student days. As a member of the National Students' Union of India (NSUI), the Congress's student wing, he contested and won the election to the post of the President of the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) in 1985. Maken has also been a two-time member of the Lok Sabha and a three-time member of the Delhi Legislative Assembly. At 39, he was appointed the Speaker of the Delhi Assembly (2003-04), the youngest Speaker in the country at the time. He has served as a Cabinet minister in both Delhi State and Central governments and has also headed the Congress's Delhi State unit. Maken contested and lost in the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha Elections to BJP's Meenakshi Lekhi from his traditional stronghold, the New Delhi constituency.
